good gardening

yesterday we had risotto with zucchinis and parsley from our own garden and funghi porcini that we have found in the forest here. Today we are having bruschetta, with our own tomatoes and our own basil. the basil is growing so fast we are almost getting worried about it, it is literally knee high. we have a little gas stove but no oven.

our builders did a big clean up today, now all the old wood is gone and a container with stone debris as well. Looks much better around the house. It was getting a bit out of control, and now it feels like we are above water again, not drowning in stuff. But of course on monday there will be more stuff to throw.. such is life on a construction site. They also took down stones for the big big glass sliding door to the terrace.. they did not really want to believe at first that the door will be 3.6 meters wide.. thought it was my bad italian, but i insisted and in the end they believed me. of course some iron bars will have to be put up to hold them, but that is another story..

it is getting almost chilly in the evenings, good to sleep though..

that boyfriend of mine can do more than just demolition, he can even build stuff up again.. he's been working on a real difficult window and changed not only the wall under it but also the key above it. that is a bit advanced brick laying work, but he did it with a smile..

we also had a good look at the solar kit today, cause it is soon time to place the panels on the roof.
now is friday evening, we are looking forward to yet another hard day of work tomorrow and maybe maybe on sunday we can place the first windows..

Delmål 1, (4 månader senare...)

Knappt hann vi att ropa: TAKET ÄR FÖR HELVETE KLART! förrens tegelpannorna från nästa tak plockades bort, (sen finns det inte fler tak.. jo det gör det faktiskt men inte som vi ska lägga om nu). Nästa del som ska renoveras.. eller restaureras snarare, är den över det som ska bli vårt vardagsrum (till vänster) och det som ska bli vår terass (till höger). Taker är ca 70 kvm och balkarna är i mycket bättre skick än på det förra så dom kan vi behålla. Arbetet borde inte ta mer än 2 veckor tycker jag, med svensk tidräkning...
Vi tog oss tid att gå upp på höjden "bakom" oss idag och titta ner på vårt lilla hus. Felice har gjort ett bra jobb konstaterade vi för det syns tydligt att huset varken är "rektangulärt" eller symetriskt.

Jodå, både Blondie och Mimmi har varit ute idag också och har kommit tillbaka... Att sen Mimmi har skaffat sig pojkvän är en helt annan historia...

cats on the run

today we had the big cat scare. i let the cats out at seven, they usually dissapear for an hour and a half and then they come back to sleep until lunch (you'd think cats have a good life when you watch ours). today one came back and brought the boyfriend to eat, the other one did not. we were not worried until ten, when we made coffee for the workers on the roof. from then on the other cat was showing signs of distress, missing her sister. niklas was still able to do good brick laying work until lunch and even until 3pm, but then the search for the cat was on. no results .. we looked at every courtyard and under all bushes and asked the whole village... nothing. then at seven we thought now she has been away 12 h, something must have happened.... well.. she came home at half past seven, thirsty and hungry and very tired.. and we were very very happy to have her back. ;-) do we dare to let her out tomorrow at seven in the morning?

even more demolition

just when you thought we were done with demolition, niklas takes out the drill hammer again and takes out the ugly stones that someone had set in there a few generations earlier.. and also is making big holes for the windows. those are a bit more tricky than i thought first, because not only does one make a perfect hole, but the old wall has very deteriorated mortar and therefore extra effort is needed to make sure our new beautiful windows don't just fall out after a week or two.

Det bränns..

Det är söndag i dag.. en dag att vila på..

ELLER... så beställer man 15 cementsäckar á 25 kilo och 1 kubikmeter grovt grus sen blandar man allt med vatten (ja inte allt på en gång så klart) och kör det sen i en skottkärra ner till källaren där det smetas ut till ett nytt golv. Det var i alla fall vad Martina och jag roade oss med idag..

Till och med männen på taket har jobbat fast det är söndag. Tegelpanna efter tegelpanna läggs i spikraka rader och nu i kväll är ca 60% av taket klart. 2 dar till så har vi det snyggaste och det tätaste taket i Casario... Garanterat!
Och sen? Ja då tar vi nästa tak över vardagsrummet och terassen... Vi säger som Gunde: -Du får vila sen!

Nu är det nära..

Felices utlovade 8 dar har blivit 14 eller kanske 15 och ännu är inte taket helt klart men vem bryr sig? Vi har väntat och väntat sååååå länge att några dagar hit eller dit kan kvitta. Till och med hängrännor och stuprör monteras så nog är det nära...

Tyvärr verkar det som att Martina har fått nog och idag kom jag på henne med att försöka bryta sig ut genom ett källarfönster. Eller så förbredde hon bara montering av ett fönster? Jo fönstren vi beställde från Sverige har anlänt och finns nu utspridda i byn i diverse garage och lador och inväntar montering.

Ikväll har vi en fin solnedgång över Casario.. klockan är 21.37.. i morgon är det söndag och Martina och jag ska gjuta 12 kvm källargolv.. om hon inte har rymt...
